Are you wondering why everyone is suddenly converting from drinking coffee to matcha? What’s so good about it anyway? Well, I’m about to answer your question why is matcha so popular and what’s so good about it?
The aesthetic
As someone who doesn’t drink coffee but wanted the same aesthetic of drinking one, matcha is the perfect substitute!
I love the coffee aesthetic, but there are some reasons I didn’t want to drink it religiously.
To name a few:
- I didn’t want to rely on it for energy.
- I didn’t want an intense boost of energy and a crash later on.
- I am careful about my cortisol levels and trying to lower them.
But, saying this, I see all of the aesthetic TikTok’s and crave something with the same kind of aesthetic, and that’s where my love for matcha came about!
How to make it more aesthetic:
- Get a cute mug or tumblr (bonus points if you have different ones depending on the season)
- Make sure to swirl your iced matcha around so you can hear the ice
- If you are making a hot matcha, froth your milk so it looks professional and cosy
- Make sure to take loads of aesthetic photos of your matcha, hot or cold, to prove that it has happened
What I use:
Let’s get into the benefits
Energy
Matcha, like other caffeinated drinks, provide energy, but why is matcha better?
Matcha provides a longer lasting boost of energy, with a gradual release of energy lasting 4-6 hours. Other caffeinated drinks aren’t as gradual and you can often crash!
The combination of caffeine and L-Theanine in the matcha gives a focused and sustained energy boost WITHOUT any crashes.
It also improves alertness, memory, performance and focus because of the L-Theanine.
I definitely notice that when I have matcha, I avoid my afternoon slump where nothing gets done. So your brain and tastebuds can be happy!
Fights depression
Matcha has high levels of L-Theanine, an amino acid that combats depression by altering the dopamine and serotonin levels the brain emits.
What is L-Theanine?
It is an amino acid in green tea that affects brain function. It relieves stress, improves mood, maintains sleep, and many more.
I just thought I was so happy looking forward to sipping on my iced matcha everyday, but it turns out it is actually making me happy!!
Contains a high level of antioxidants
one cup of matcha tea has as many antioxidants as 10 cups of brewed green tea

What even are antioxidants?
They help defend the cells in your body caused by any harmful molecules. This means they reduce the risk of diseases.
There are many foods rich in antioxidants, like dark chocolate, blueberries, etc, and matcha trumps many of them, having the highest level of antioxidants!
So not only are you getting an energy boost, as well as a brain boost, it is actually really healthy and good for your body!
Could support weight loss
Matcha boosts metabolism and burns fat because it contains a high level of EGCG, which is a powerful antioxidant that boosts metabolism and stimulates fat burning.
Not to mention, as we have previously read, matcha gives you energy, which is helpful in getting you to move throughout the day, or give you a little boost in your workout!
As you know, it is a great alternative to drinking coffee, because it doesn’t spike your cortisol and blood sugar. The anti inflammatory effects, due to the high antioxidants, are great for your skin as well as your body!
Skin benefits
Protects against sun damage
With the increasing alertness, especially amongst the gen z, to keep on top of applying sunscreen in your everyday skincare routine, this adds another layer of feeling protected!
I don’t know about you but I definitely want to keep my skin looking as youthful as possible, for as long as possible. Here’s how it protects your skin against sun damage…
Matcha contains a high level of chlorophyll, which absorbs sun rays and converts it into energy! As well as this, it prevents premature aging of the skin that is caused by repeated amounts of sun exposure.
Whether you are drinking it, or applying skincare products with matcha in it, it is keeping your skin as young and healthy for longer!
It could help you control your acne
We have read that EGCG can boost metabolism and stimulate fat burning, but did you know it could also help control your acne? Me neither!
https://www.quenchbotanics.com/blog/matcha-benefits-for-your-skin has provided amazing information in how matcha can reduce acne! And even have products that contain matcha in them, so you can include it in your skincare routine! So if you want extra benefits, definitely check out that link!
EGCG can reduce the production of sebum which can be a factor in acne. As well as reducing inflammation, which if the girlies who suffer from acne know, our skin can get VERY inflamed.
