Like many of us, Colleen Hoover was the author that got us into reading (well, she was for me anyway). And since I first started reading in 2021, I have read 9 Colleen Hoover books, which I will be ranking from best to worst!
I also want to say, that none of these books are bad! Hoover has the ability to hook you with every book she writes, but when ranking books, some has to go on the bottom! (Sorry Colleen).
1. It Ends with Us
Rating: 5 ⭐️
Coming in first place, we have the infamous It Ends with Us. (which btw is being made into a movie as I write this, and I’m not sure how to feel.)
I think this book comes in first place because of how impactful it is. It is a fan favourite, and I didn’t want to be predictable, but it was between this and another book, that I wanted to put for first place.
Some books you never think about again, but this book I find myself thinking about.
I read this in 2021, and I can still remember what happens and how it made me feel, which is a sign of a good book.
Hoover tends to have good plot twists in her book, and it is safe to say this one left me heartbroken!
Quick book summary
This book follows Lily, who has just graduated college, and wants to make a better life for herself. She moves away from home and starts her own business, and even meets a guy called Ryle.
Ryle has a no dating rule, but somehow he has a soft spot for Lily, and can’t seem to stay away from her.
Alongside the present tense, we get past tense diary entries from Lily, describing her relationship with her first love Atlas.
Atlas suddenly re appears in her present life. Possibly putting her too good to be true relationship with Ryle at risk.
What is Lily going to do? How is Ryle going to react about Atlas?
2. Verity
Rating: 5 ⭐️
This one is a very close second (possibly a draw) with It Ends with Us.
I read this in August 2022 and I couldn’t put it down. I don’t typically read thriller’s (I was a romance girl through and through at this point), so I enjoyed that Hoover still added romance in there.
It took me no time at all to read this book, simply because I was on the edge of my seat the whole time and I needed to find out more.
If you’re scared easily, I wouldn’t recommend reading this before bed lol.
Also you need to tell me in the comments if you’re team manuscript or team letter!!
Quick book summary:
This book follows Lowen, who has been hired by Jeremy Crawford to complete the remaining books in his wife’s (Verity) successful series, as Verity is injured and unable to finish it.
When Lowen arrives at their home, she begins sorting through Verity’s work material, when she finds an unfinished auto biography, written by Verity, that she didn’t intend anyone to read.
The manuscript contains awful admissions, including what happened the night their family was forever changed.
Her feelings for Jeremy start to grow, making her knowledge of the manuscript a looming risk.
Should she tell Jeremy about his wife’s awful admissions and potentially change his already sad circumstances?
3. All your perfects
Rating: 5 ⭐️
This book absolutely ripped my heart out. It’s kind of a second chance romance, but not exactly. You’ll just have to see when you read it!!
I was sobbing reading this book. I went into it not really knowing much about it, but all I can say is wow. Hoover has done it again.
I’m not going to lie, it’s a hard read. It’s very emotional, and I would definitely check the trigger warnings because this book is so emotional and painful.
However, that being said, I would definitely recommend reading it. I think it brings great awareness to one of the main topics in the book, and I genuinely do think it could help the people going through similar things.
Quick book summary
Quinn and Graham meet outside of her apartment door, when they realise that both of their partners are cheating on them, with each other.
It is almost like fate that they meet each other, because a year after leaving both of their current partners they are in the perfect relationship.
The book goes through past and present tense, showing you how perfect their relationship was back then, and then the struggles that they are going through right now.
It questions whether a perfect relationship (then) can last through heartbreaking circumstances.
4. Ugly Love
Rating: 4.5 ⭐️
This one is quite a controversial one. This was the first Hoover book I ever read, and this is the book that got me into reading! (and made me fall in love with the brothers best friend trope.)
Looking back on it now, I wouldn’t rate it 5 stars like I did back in 2021, because I think there are a LOT of red flags that I overlooked and wouldn’t enjoy reading now.
However, I still want to rate it 4.5 as I really really loved and recommended this book at the time.
I did however find myself so conflicted (you’ll understand why when you read it). I didn’t know what to think about the relationships in the book, and what I wanted the ending to look like.
It was a heart breaking book and I did cry.
Quick book summary
The main character Tate has just moved in with her brother, and is focusing on getting her degree. Miles is focusing on his pilot career. They both don’t have time for a relationship, but they can’t hide the attraction they have for one another.
They agree to have a friends with benefits situation, Miles’ only rules is to never ask about his past and to never expect a future. Which Tate thinks she can handle.
This book is a dual perspective – Tate and the present tense, and Miles and the past tense (which gives you an insight into Miles’ past).
Their mutual relationship might have been going well at the start, but when feelings get involved, that’s when love starts to get ugly.
5. November 9
Rating: 4.5 ⭐️
This one was a close decision with the next book, but this one was placed higher because I can remember more of the story, and I feel like it had a bigger impact on me.
The only thing that I didn’t absolutely LOVE, is the fact that the romance between the two main characters is based off of them meeting once every year. Like how can there even be a romance if they only meet once a year?!
Any whooo, there was a lot of twists and turns in this book, and times when I was on the edge of my seat. And I love when I can’t put a book down, because there’s nothing worse than when you’re forcing yourself to read a book.
If it wasn’t for the plot twists in this book, and the scenes where my jaw was on the floor, then this book would definitely be getting a lower rating, because finding a connection with someone straight away and only meeting once every year is just a little bit unrealistic for me.
Quick book summary
The main character Fallon, meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her big cross country move. They meet on November 9th, when Fallon isn’t having the best day, which leads to them spending the day together.
Fallon becomes the creative inspiration that Ben has been needing for his novel, and they decide to meet every year at the same place, on November 9th.
Everything is going well until one year, Fallon becomes suspicious that Ben hasn’t been telling her the truth. What will this mean for Ben and Fallon’s relationship?
6. Heart Bones
Rating: 4.25 ⭐️
I never usually hear people talking about this book, and granted, it’s not the most memorable, but I did enjoy it at the time!
Hoover does talk about some important topics, like relationships with food, and there is some good main character development in this book.
Initially when I first read this, I rated it a 4.75 ⭐️, however looking back, and realising I don’t really remember much, or how it made me feel, I had to lower the rating.
If you’re wanting a book with summer romance vibes, then I would definitely recommend this one, as the setting is on the beach!
Quick book summary
Beyah hasn’t had the most fortunate of upbringings. She has dealt with neglect her whole life, and an unexpected death leaves her with no place to go.
Her last resort is reaching out to her father who she barely knows, to spend the summer with him.
Her plan is to keep her head down so her summer goes really quickly, that was until she met Samson.
They have nothing in common, he comes from a family of wealth and privilege, she comes from poverty, but they are both drawn to sad things, meaning they are both drawn to each other.
They have an immediate connection, which they can’t deny, and decide to have a summer romance, however, more feelings are arising, as well as a MAJOR plot twist, leaving everyone wondering what is going to happen.
7. It stars with us *could contain spoilers*
Rating: 4.25 ⭐️
I didn’t really know where to place this, because it’s not a stand alone book, it’s a sequel to ‘It Ends with us’ so it’s obviously not going to include major plot twists.
I really enjoyed this book as just a nice read, allowing us to see how the characters in It Ends with us are doing.
After what happens in the first book, which I won’t spoil, Hoover puts the focus on building healthy relationships and becoming happy.
Quick book summary (spoilers if you haven’t read ‘It Ends with us’
This book is a dual point of view with Atlas and Lily.
It is a second chance romance, and you get to see if that connection Lily and Atlas had throughout their childhood can rekindle.
8. Reminders of Him
Rating: 4.25 ⭐️
This book was very emotional and made me feel so sorry for every character in this book.
It was a very tough read. In the sense that I didn’t want to read on in case anything got worse, but I had to read on to see what happens!
Hoover depicts grieving and loss really well in this book, as it effects everyone differently.
The reason I’m not rating this as high as the others, is because it was agonising to read. The circumstances in this book, seem so real, yet so far from reality, that I didn’t know how to feel. Like I couldn’t fathom going through what any of the characters in here go through.
Quick book summary:
After spending 5 years in prison after a tragic mistake, Kenna returns back to her home town, in order to win back her daughter.
However, from the beginning, you see it is going to be tough.
Kenna’s daughter is very well protected, and getting through to her, will mean she has to face her past, and the reason she got put in prison.
She meets a local bar owner, Ledger, who has connections to her daughter. They immediately hit it off, however their relationship takes a turn, when they realise who each other are.
Still, they can’t deny their connection, as much as they try to. But their relationship puts everything at risk.
9. Regretting you
Rating: 4 ⭐️
Now I’m not saying this book is bad at all. But something had to go last, and unfortunately for Colleen Hoover, Regretting you it is.
I rated it 4 stars because I found myself having to put it down because I was getting so frustrated with it.
The plot twist in this book happens early on, and it was a SHOCKER!
So throughout the book (if you’ve read it you’ll know), it is so frustrating knowing something that one of the characters don’t know.
This book has romances, but I would say the main focus of the book is the relationship between the mother and daughter (which for me was the most agonising part to read).
Quick book summary:
Everything in Morgans life is put on hold, when she falls pregnant in her teens.
As her daughter turns 16, all Morgan does is protect her daughter from making the same mistakes as she did.
Her daughter Clara doesn’t want to end up like her mother, and has conflicting goals of becoming an actress, whilst her mother wants her to get a stable job.
Their relationship is slightly strained, but held afloat by Morgan’s husband and Clara’s dad, Chris.
That all comes crashing down, when Chris is involved in a tragic and questionable accident.
They both find comfort in the people they know they shouldn’t, putting even more of a strain on their relationship.
Thank you for reading <3

Hi!
Thank you for the comment and I apologise it has taken me so long to reply!
There may be a part 2 in the future if I get round to reading more Colleen Hoover books! Have you read any of these books?
