We’ve all been hungover at some point, and it probably won’t be the last time we’re hungover either, so you’re going to want to take notes… as this is THE BEST hungover morning routine.
*Disclaimer this is me speaking from experience, not a professional point of view*
It starts the day before
To ensure you are the most prepared in fighting this hangover, you’ll want to start preparing the day before.
- Lay out your pjs for when you get in. When you get in, you want to be doing the least amount of thinking possible. You might not even be able to think at all. So look out for your future self by getting your pjs out.
- Make your bed. There is NOTHING worse, than coming home late at night (or early in the morning), ready for bed, and then seeing bags, outfits you didn’t like, makeup, hair tools, etc, thrown on your bed. That means you literally have to start tidying, and who wants to do that when they’re drunk?
- Tidy your room. Similarly to making your bed, you are going to thank yourself when you come in from a night out, and your room is somewhat tidy. It is also one less thing you need to do in the morning when you are hungover.
- Lay out your skincare products for when you get in. Again with the not having to think too hard when you get home drunk. Leaving your skincare products out to take your makeup off means that you won’t forget to do it. Trust me, your skin will thank you for it in the morning! As well as your pillows that were able to stay clean lol.
- Leave multiple glasses / bottles of water out. If you leave multiple glasses of water in the places you know you will go when you get home (the fridge, your bedside table, the bathroom), it will constantly remind you to drink water. TRUST ME, you will feel so much better in the morning if you drink water than if you were to go straight to sleep without drinking water.
Don’t drink on an empty stomach
Make sure that you have eaten enough throughout the day and before you go out.
If you don’t eat before you go out (speaking from experience) you will get drunk MUCH quicker.
I know it can be annoying if you have eaten and it takes you AGES to get drunk, but if you’re trying not to get a hangover, and make some smarter decisions… make sure you eat.
What are the best foods to eat before drinking?
Eating foods that contain high protein will slow the absorption of alcohol, which is probably why you notice it takes longer to get drunk when you eat before.
Protein also keeps you fuller for longer!
But honestly, if you only have access to something quick and easy make sure to eat that. Because any food is better than no food when it comes to drinking on an empty stomach.
Now for the morning routine

1. Assess how you feel
When you wake up, sometimes you don’t feel that you’re hungover straight away.
You have to sit up and pray that when you do, you don’t feel like instantly vomiting or that you head is going to pop off.
I suppose this is the first step in the hangover morning routine, because it will decide whether you spend the next few hours over the toilet or not.
If you soon realise that you do need to spend the next few hours throwing up and trying to go back to sleep, do what you need to do and then come back for the next steps.
2. Water
If your past self was organised and looked our for your future self, you should have a glass / bottle of water on your bedside cabinet.
If not, now is the time to get one.
Sip as much water as you can.
How does drinking water help?
- water flushes out the toxins
- Water rehydrates you after the alcohol has dehydrated you.
- Adding electrolytes could hydrate you faster, and make you feel better quicker.
Make sure you’re sipping water throughout the whole day.
3. Breakfast
Eating something will make you feel so much better and minimise that fragile feeling you have in your stomach.
What’s the best things to eat?
Having a balance of carbs, protein, and fat will help prevent further blood sugar drops and spikes.

4. Have an everything shower
I’m telling you, you will feel like a new woman.
The though of it may sounds unappealing, because who can be bothered to have an everything shower when they’re feeling hungover, but trust me, you won’t regret it.
What to do in this everything shower:
- Hair wash. I try to make an effort to not wash my hair before the night out. Why? Because after a night out, your hair is probably sweaty, gross and very tangled. Washing your hair the next day and feeling fresh is the best feeling ever.
- Body wash. You probably won’t be smelling great, I hate to break it to you. So, use your favourite body wash, and scrub away all of the club grime!
- Shave. This is optional, but shaving makes me feel put together and fully fresh, like I’m starting anew.
- Moisturise. Lock in all of the amazing smells with a delicious smelling moisturiser, so that when you are chilling all day, you can at least smell nice.
- Skincare. Hopefully you washed your face (or at least took your makeup off) the night before. But if you didn’t now’s the time, and if you did, you can continue your morning skincare!
Relax and recover
Now that you have had a productive morning (or afternoon depending on what time you woke up lol), you have the rest of the day to relax and recover!
What you do is up to you, so here’s a few suggestions:
- Watch a movie. Turn your brain off and watch one of your favourite movies.
- Have a nap. Maybe you need to catch up on more sleep, so having a nap may be a solid option.
- See friends. Sometimes taking your mind off it helps. Personally as an introvert, after a night out I want to minimise social interaction, but if you are an extrovert, then you may love to see people at this time.
Thank you for reading <3
I hope this post was helpful if you are feeling hungover.
The morning after does make me question whether it’s even worth it, but if you made good memories, then don’t be too hard on yourself. And if your night wasn’t good, then again, don’t go too hard on yourself, cleanse away all of the bad memories.
