There are a lot of factors that go into healing your acne. Skincare may be something that can only help until you combine other factors. However, when I started incorporating these products and practices into my everyday life, my acne FINALLY started clearing.
Before and after pictures
Before
After
I thought would share some before and after pictures, so you can see that it is possible to clear your skin!
There is 1 year difference between the before and after photos, however it took me 3-4 months to heal my acne!
I know the cycle of waking up and thinking it’s finally gotten better, to waking up the day after that with more spots and wondering when will this cycle ever end?!
Hopefully after this post, there will be, even a small, noticeable difference in your skin!
The most important thing
Before I start talking about the skincare products, because I know skincare reacts differently to everyone’s skin, I want to talk about the most important thing I did when it came to healing my acne.
Treat your skin as if you are healing it, rather than trying to exterminate your acne.
For so many months, I was using as many exfoliators, acids, spot creams, and harsh treatments that you could ever imagine.
My main focus was to literally burn the acne off my face. Which only left my face red, inflamed, and much worse!
What did I do?
I stopped using harsh products on my face every day (limited to a gentle exfoliator 1-2x a week).
Instead, I focused on healing my acne like it was a cut on my leg.
I know cuts are very different than acne, but you wouldn’t think of violently scrubbing your cuts, or putting harsh treatments on them, making them inflamed.
Stop washing your face in the morning if you have sensitive skin
If you have sensitive skin and you are washing your face in the morning, I encourage you to try not washing your face in the morning.
Has anyone else who deals with acne, woke up in the morning, and thought, wait my skin is actually looking better, and then you wash your face, and suddenly new spots appear, and your skin is all red?
Well that was me.
I learned that I have sensitive skin, that can get irritated and red quickly, so I took a risk (everything is risky when you have acne and you just don’t want it to get worse lol).
I stopped washing my face in the morning and this was the start to healing my acne!
Stop drying your face with dirty towels
So you’re telling me I have to get 14 clean towels to use everyday? No, don’t worry.
Now this may sound shocking, and I can’t believe I’m admitting to this, but anything to help right?
I use toilet paper / paper towels (kitchen roll) to pat my face dry.
I promise it sounds more disgusting than it actually is.
This tip I got from the queen Jordan Lipscombe, who in one of her videos explained she uses paper towels to pat her face dry, rather than a towel. Wanting to try anything and everything. Possible, I thought, I might as well try.
Towels can harbour more bacteria than a disposable paper towel, and I truly did see a difference after swapping out my towels for paper towels.
Wash your hands every time you go to touch it
When starting my skincare routine, I make sure that I have clean hands.
This prevents spreading bacteria onto my face when I am trying to clean it.
If I exfoliate my face, and then decide I’m going to brush my teeth and wait for the exfoliator to do it’s thing before I moisturise, I will wash my hands before putting my moisturiser back on.
Because think of all of the things you have touches since washing your hands. Bottles, tubes, toothpaste, phone, etc.
The bacteria builds up before you know it!

Now onto the products…
Cetaphil gentle skin cleanser
I swear this was the product where I really started to notice a change in my skin!
I do want to mention, this is the new and improved formula, rather than the old one!!
If you have dry and sensitive skin, this is such an amazing product!!
After I use this in the evening my skin doesn’t feel dry or tight at all! It feels really clean, as well as moisturised!
Cetaphil moisturiser
The cleanser started my love for cetaphil (the new and improved versions), and I knew I had to try the moisturiser!
As someone with dry skin, I can confirm that this moisturiser, alongside the hydrating cleanser, has never made my skin feel dry or flaky!
I was really looking out for a good moisturiser, because moisturiser will stay and sink into your skin, as oppose to cleanser that is washed off.
So moisturisers NEED to be good!
Paula’s choice exfoliant
For my sensitive and easily irritated skin girlies, I can confirm that this product I really love!
I would recommend not getting any exfoliators with grains in them, because they can irritate your skin!
This exfoliator is perfect, because it is a liquid exfoliant! Meaning it’s more gentle than scrubbing at your face!
I use this 2x a week! It does say you can use it everyday, and who knows I may get up to that level, but for now, I’m going to stick to 2x a week, enough to exfoliate and rejuvenate my skin, but also keep the inflammation at a low.
Sunscreen
Sunscreen is not going to heal your acne, however it will prevent your skin from getting dark spots, or marks that linger for a long time!
When you get a spot and you go in the sun, it can more easily be turned into a dark spot, which is harder to get rid of!
Sunscreen has SO many benefits, the most important one for the face being it can prevent any signs of early wrinkles!
So start young, and reap the benefits of looking young when you get older!
Micellar water
To take off your make up, you can’t just be relying on one cleanser.
Getting a cleanser that’s specifically designed for taking off makeup, is going to make sure that you get EVERYTHING off!
Now, any micellar water will do the trick.
I have also heard amazing things about oil cleansers, so if you have any recommendations, please leave them in the comments, because I really want to add one into my skincare routine!
My skincare routine step by step
Morning
- Wash my hands
- Splash my face with cold water
- Pat my face until its only slightly damp, with a paper towel
- Moisturise
- Sunscreen
Evening
- Wash hands
- Take off my makeup with micellar water
- Cleanser
- If its exfoliant night – pat my face fully dry with a paper towel and apply exfoliate
- If its not exfoliant night, pat my face till slightly damp, and apply snail mucin
- Moisturise
Let’s talk about snail mucin
I use the Cosrx one, and so far I am really liking it in my skincare routine so far!
I have had this product previously and I don’t think I gave it long enough to see if it did anything.
However, I have started using it again, and my skin has never felt so soft or hydrated EVER. This is because there is a VERY gentle exfoliant in here, which is amazing for sensitive skin if no exfoliators are gentle enough for you!
I am going to continue using it, however I don’t think this can contribute to healing my acne!
Thank you for reading <3
