Steps to start reinventing yourself
1. Decide what you want to leave in 2023
A lot of the time we think about what we want to start doing, and forget about the things that we are doing that need to go.
Think about anything that is holding you back in life. We want to be surrounded by encouraging and uplifting things / people.
Removing anything that is giving you intense anxiety. Having anxiety over a certain things (or multiple things) just makes you anxious for the next day. Whether it’s you removing these triggers from your life, or coming up with ways to combat it, it will definitely be worth it.
A negative mindset. This is probably the hardest thing to change, because it has probably taken years for your mind to pick up little habits of negativity. So it may take years of picking up little habits of positivity. But one thing that’s for certain, it will be worth it. You are going to live with your mind for the rest of your life, so you might as well make it a positive and uplifting space.
Anything you can think of that has impacted your life in a negative way in 2023, write it down.
2. Decide what you want to add to 2024
Maybe you want to try to learn a new hobby, or maybe you want to learn how to do the splits (I swear that’s been my goal for about 3 years – still haven’t reached it lol).
This is important. Whatever you choose to add, make sure that is attainable for you! You don’t want to be adding something totally unrealistic, and then getting upset when you don’t reach it.
If you want to start going to the gym, adding ‘gym 5x per week’ is unrealistic for someone who doesn’t go to the gym.
instead of saying that you’re going to go 5x a week, go 3x a week (or whatever number is attainable for you). Maybe even start by saying ‘move everyday’. Which could look like a walk, stretching, gym, home workouts, etc.
We are making REALISTIC and ATTAINABLE New Year’s resolutions. This will increase your chance of doing them and not giving up!
This is not to say that you shouldn’t dream big. You can always have a 6 month check in and reevaluate your goals (you could change ‘move everyday’ to ‘move everyday on top of gym 3x a week’).
If we stay realistic at the start and make our goals a habit, we are going to get better at them, and may want to increase the intensity 6 months in! That’s amazing progress and something you should be so proud of!
3. Think about your goals by category
You could either separate your goals by focusing on a certain category each month, or you could pick one goal from each to focus on each month. Whatever seems the most attainable for you.
Splitting your goals into categories make the goals more tailored to you, and it also gives you small achievable goals, within one big goal, making it easier than ever to follow your goals and reinvent yourself!
4. Create a vision board
Now that you know all of the categories you want to improve / continue to reinvent yourself, you can create a vision board.
Why do vision boards help?
- You can visually see what you’re working towards everyday
- You can get really clear on what you want
- Using visualisation techniques, you can easily see how you want your life to look because you have the pictures to go along with it
- It’s motivating
My vision board last year (set as my lock screen)
Even if some of these things didn’t happen, don’t let that discourage you.
Some goals you just can’t achieve in one year, and if they need to reappear in my vision board for 2024, then so be it.

3. Reinvent myself journal
Sometimes telling people your goals and being held accountable is good. But sometimes, I think you should keep your goals close to your chest, and everyone can find out once you have already completed them.
Telling everyone your goals before you have completed them adds a unneeded pressure.
Remember that not everyone has your best intentions at heart, and not everyone is rooting for you. So only tell the people you trust your goals (if you want too).
What can I journal?
Sectioning your journal either by each month of the year, or each category of goal, means that you can keep track of your goals.
You can write down your feelings after each goal, your struggles, what you enjoyed, etc.
And then at the end of the year, you have a full notebook of everything you have accomplished and that’s something to be so proud of! Not to mention reading it back will not only make you feel good, it’s also motivational for the next year!
Thank you for reading <3
I hope you have enjoyed reading this post and it has gave you some motivation / inspiration to reinvent yourself for the new year (or starting next week, because you don’t always have to wait for a new month / year / week / day! You can start now!)
