Don’t have any plans this Autumn? Don’t worry, here’s everything you can do to make the most of Autumn!
I am making a conscious effort to tailor my plans and the things I am doing everyday, to feel a little bit more Autumnal.
Why? Simply because I think being present in the season you are in, as well as changing and growing along with the seasons, is a good way to romanticise life!
Here’s how I have been doing it…
Pumpkin picking
This is the first year I have ever been pumpkin picking, and I would definitely recommend.
Depending on where you live, it could be extremely muddy (where I am), or it could be dry (allowing you to have more fun with fall inspired outfits).
How to romanticise it:
- Go with a good group of people. This is self explanatory, but the people really do make it better, because essentially you are just going round picking pumpkins.
- Take cute photos. Did you really go if you haven’t got the cute photos to show for it? Even if these photos don’t get posted anywhere, they are cute and comforting memories to look back on.
- Dress somewhat Autumn inspired. I struggled with this because I knew the place we were going was going to be super muddy. But, if the place you are going isn’t going to be muddy, get your cute fall outfit on (which will make the photos even better!)
- Make a day of it. Maybe you meet up with a pumpkin themed drink in hand, autumn inspired makeup and outfit, listen to Halloween vibe songs on the way there. And after, you could continue the autumn vibes and carve the pumpkins, or watch a movie, etc.
Pumpkin carving
Following on from the pumpkin picking… why not carve the pumpkin?
This is a tradition that all of my family do together, and it just makes me think of Halloween and Autumn!
How to romanticise pumpkin carving:
- Play Halloween music. Whenever we start pumpkin carving, we crank out the Hocus Pocus soundtrack. It just makes you feel all of the Halloween vibes.
- Watch a Halloween movie. If you don’t want to listen to Halloween music, why not watch a Halloween movie (or an autumnal movie)
- Pinterest pumpkin ideas. Having a pumpkin design in mind gives you a goal and something to look forward too!
Change your phone background
Changing your phone background to something that is Autumn theme, whether it’s a collage, a single photo, or even an autumn colour, will get you feeling part of the season.
What I like to do, is make a mood board that is fall / autumn themed. (the next point will explain more)
Looking at your phone and seeing a cute autumn background is going to make you feel all cosy and help you feel autumnal.
If you struggle with the changing seasons you can pick your favourite things about the autumn season, and put that on your background to remind you that this is the season you are in, and to enjoy these little things.
It is also a good way to get creative. I can’t go too long without changing my phone background. I get bored so easily, and having a new background makes me feel like I have a new phone (idk it’s weird).
It heals some part of my brain that wants to be creative all the time.
Create an Autumn mood board
Mood boards are a great way to visualise everything you want, your goals, showcase who you are as a person, etc.
What to put on your mood board:
- A photo of the people you love. This is always a good thing to add onto the mood board, to remind us that, yes we are looking at our goals and what we want for our future, but we also get to see our loved ones and that they are very much in the now, and we should cherish that.
- Photos that represent the season. For example, pumpkins, cosy fires, candles, colours, etc. something to get you into the autumn mood.
- Things you want this season. This could be a piece of clothing, a hairstyle, a set of nails. Just something that you can look at and almost manifest for the season.
- Quotes that you want to live by this season. If you want to focus on self care, career, family, etc, get a relevant quote so you can always read.
Movie nights
It is getting COLD outside (especially in the UK), and going out just doesn’t sound appealing at all!
So we’re romanticising staying in.
One of my favourite things to do when staying in is a movie night.
How to romanticise movie night:
- Get comfy clothes on. Whether it’s a matching lounge set, or your favourite fluffy pyjamas from Primark, make sure you are comfy and warm.
- Cuddle up under a blanket. You know the movies you watch where the main characters are cuddles up under a blanket watching movies? How’s your time to be the main character!
- Make yourself a hot drink. Whether it’s a hot chocolate, a cup of tea, or another warm drink of your choice, put it in your favourite mug and enjoy!
- Get some snacks. Get your favourite snacks, you could even make them autumnal / Halloween themed if you wanted too! There’s nothing better than watching a movie with your favourite snacks! Maybe you order a pizza and enjoy that half way through the movie! Whatever you decide, I’m sure it will be delicious!
- Autumnal / Halloween movies. Dive into the season and watch movies that represent the season you are in. This helps romanticise your life and feel present. The best autumnal movies to watch on Netflix: http://bigsisterera.com/the-best-movies-to-watch-on-netflix-in-autumn/
Make yourself autumn drinks / food
Why not change up the food you’re eating for every season?
It will help you make the most of Autumn and make the changing seasons exciting!
It gives you something to look forward to if you don’t usually like the changing seasons or a certain season!
Creating autumn inspired food and drinks also helps you keep present in the moment and romanticise the season.

Read!
What could be better than curling up with a good book throughout Autumn? I know! Curling up with a good autumn / Halloween inspired book throughout Autumn.
Obviously you don’t HAVE to read an autumn inspired book, but it just feels cosy to read along with the seasons!
I have a full book recommendations page with all of my favourite books I have read (so far), if you are stuck on what to read during any season! http://bigsisterera.com/book-recommendations/
Autumn / Halloween vibe books:
- ACOTAR by Sarah J. Maas. The ACOTAR series is not only one of my favourite book series EVER, but it includes magic and powers, courts, kings, queens, etc.
- Throne of Glass series by Sarah J. Maas. This series similarly includes kings and queens, magic and powers, and is by the same author of the ACOTAR series (Sarah J. Mass), so if you like the ACOTAR series, then I know you will love this series too. It is a lot longer, so depending on how quick you can read, this could take longer than a full season (trust me it is taking me longer!)
- The Six of Crows duo by Leigh Bardugo. This is another fantasy read, and it is so good! It follows a group of assassins and it is very dark, eerie, it keeps you on the edge of your seat!
- Verity by Colleen Hoover. If you’re wanting something that keeps you on the edge of your seat, definitely give this a read. It is eerie, spooky, and is definitely one to read around Halloween time!
- Before the coffee gets cold by Toshikazu Kawaguchi. Coffee shops scream Autumn vibes, and this is also something I would recommend to read at any time, because it is such a lovely, yet impactful book.
Autumn / Halloween books on my TBR pile:
- The Pumpkin spice cafe by Laurie Gilmore
- The secret Society of irregular witches by Sangu Mandanna
- A witches guide to fake dating by Sarah Hawley
Thank you for reading <3
I hope this post gave you some inspo on what to do to make the most of Autumn!
I know sometimes the change in seasons can be hard, but embracing the seasons and everything they have to offer could help you feel a little bit better about the colder weather!
