You’re clearly here because you’re asking yourself the question ‘do you get more introverted as you get older’, and girl, I feel you.
This blog post is probably going to be chaotic, but just picture your bestie speaking to you as we chat about becoming more introverted as we get older and why I personally love being more introverted.
Have you turned into an introvert?
So we’re clearly at that stage where every club and social gathering involving loads of people (and alcohol) sounds more unappealing as time goes on.
It may be different if you know and are close with everyone, but when you barely know anyone, it feels like it’s 10x more effort.
Maybe that’s just my introverted brain talking, but I know i’m definitely not alone in thinking this.
It feels like when you have your close group of people, who add so much to your life, bring you joy, etc, you start to feel like you have everything you need, and you don’t want to tell people why you are the way they are if they don’t understand.
Is that mean to say?
Why I prefer being more introverted
Being an extrovert you feel fulfilled by always having social interactions and having things going on.
As an introvert, you are quite happy to sit at home and you still feel fulfilled, in fact you may prefer the thought of going home over going out.
Us introverts probably save a ton of money by having totally different plans than extroverts.
Things i love to do as an introvert
Self care evenings
Whether I only have time to relax with a cup of tea and a book, or I have time to fully pamper myself, a self care evening is always my go to.
Here’s my ideal self care evening:
- workout. After work I always move my body in some way because it wakes me up and makes me feel more energised otherwise I will definitely fall asleep and struggle to actually get to sleep when I need to.
Workouts that I love to do are pilates, walking, and weight training (if I have the energy).
- shower. Obviously I am showering everyday, but if you want to do a self care evening right, there’s nothing better than feeling fresh and smelling amazing!
My favourite shower products:
- Your favourite pyjamas. I’m acting like i don’t wear my favourite pyjamas every night, but fresh pyjamas will have you feeling put together and clean, bonus points if they’re a matching set (although I do know how comfy an oversized t shirt and a random pair of pants are).
My favourite pyjamas:
- peppermint tea. I am fully obsessed with peppermint tea, but any warm beverage at this time will suffice. It’s honestly just the ritual of getting a cute mug and relaxing.
- A good book. There’s truly nothing like feeling fresh after the shower, having clean pyjamas on, you have your warm beverage, now you’re READING. That to me is true relaxing heaven. I also feel that reading before bed makes you more relaxed over watching TikTok’s or scrolling social media!
Movie nights
I’m not talking about just putting a film on, I’m talking about actually having and romanticising a movie night.
Get your comfiest clothes on and wrap yourself in a cost blanket, get your favourite snacks, light your candles, turn all of your lights off, switch your phone off, and pretend you’re at the cinema.
Romanticise reading
Just like a movie night, romanticise reading.
Get your cost pj’s on, make a warm beverage, get cosy in a blanket, or if it’s hot sit outside!!!
Especially if you have anxiety or just feel anxious all day with no reason, reading transports you to another world and stops you from thinking about anything else.
I also feel like reading makes you feel better than sitting on your phone, even though you are relaxing both ways, reading feels less guilty and more productive.
Book girlies know that hitting your reading goals is productive and produces so much serotonin lol.
Currently reading: The Serpent and Dove series (I’m on book 3) and I would really recommend!!! I have been loving it!
Other book recommendations:
- ACOTAR
- Throne of Glass
- Magnolia Parks
- Six of Crows
- Colleen Hoover books (these got me into reading)
Long walks
It really doesn’t matter if this is by yourself or with someone, both are equally good.
If you’re by yourself, this is your TIME. You can put your favourite podcast on and listen to that (my favourite is The Girls Bathroom). Alternatively, you can listen to your favourite music and vibe out! Or, you can simply not listen to anything, and listen to everything outside, in your brain, etc.
There is something unsettling about having to be with your thoughts and only your thoughts for a prolonged period of time, however, after the walk, I guarantee you’ll be feeling better.
Walking and being in your thoughts is the perfect opportunity to go through everything you are going through, maybe you’re anxious about something, maybe there is something going on in your job. Treat this as free therapy, I can almost guarantee that you’ll feel clearer by the end of your walk.
Otherwise, simply just appreciate the fresh air, and be happy that you’re alive.
Getting out for a walk everyday is one of my favourite things ever!
If you’re with something, there is something so wholesome about going on a walk together.
I read somewhere that walking stimulates your brain more than reading, so who knows what you will end up talking about, but you’ll hopefully feel closer and more connected to the person you went on a walk with.
Cafe dates
Cafe dates, either solo or with someone, is one of my favourite things. They feel less formal than an actual sit down meal, but you can still dress up cute!
I also feel like people to to cafes to read, journal, work, and I wouldn’t be surprised if I saw someone crocheting or drawing. It’s just like everyone’s living their best life being themselves, with pastries and matcha involved.
You’re surrounded by people, yet you don’t have to talk to anyone! An introverted dream lol.
Beach
Whether it’s warm or cold, a beach walk is always a good idea.
It must be something to do with being near the sea that makes me feel super calm and present. Spending time at the beach on a summer holiday has always been my favourite thing to do, so having a little slice of that here in the UK makes me feel so happy.
Going for food
Going for food > going clubbing.
I don’t know if this is because I’m a massive foodie, but going for food is the best.
I’d much rather spend my money on food rather than alcohol on a Friday night, and be tucked up in bed by 10pm.
p.s. In no way am I saying that extroverted people can’t enjoy this, they can enjoy this and have the need to go out and be social, however introverts (speaking from myself lol), are completely fine with doing this and only this.
Thank you for reading <3
I hope this post was useful in some way, whether you are introverted like myself and just wanted to feel seen, or are an extrovert and wanted some insight on the introvert brain.
If you are a fellow introvert, please let me know what you like to do in your free time, and what you feel fulfils you!
I just wanted to mention that there was no harm intended in this blog post, take everything with a pinch of salt, as this is all my own experience, and everyone is different!
