This was my first time in Italy (more specifically Milan, Verona, and Lake Como), so I am no expert. However, I was super excited to pick all of my outfits for Italy and to share with you ‘Comfortable and simple outfit ideas for your holiday in Italy’
I also think it’s super important to mention that I went in the middle of May, so the weather was just transitioning from spring to summer. There was a few showers, and there was also beautiful sunny weather (just to keep in mind for the outfits!)
In my mind, I thought it was just going to be sunny skies all the time, so I would have definitely packed a umbrella (something I did NOT think I would be buying in Italy lol). A warmer jacket for the evenings when it got chilly! However if you are going in the peak of summer, I think you’d be able to skip packing those lol!
What I wore in Verona
Black flowy dress from H&M
This dress was the perfect comfortable and simple outfit for walking around a town.
When it’s warm, you don’t want something that’s going to cling to you and make you even more sweaty and uncomfortable.
This was perfect because it was breathable and most importantly… I could eat and not feel self conscious (even though everyone gets bloated, it’s nothing to be ashamed about, but that’s definitely something I’m working on accepting)!
I loved the length of this dress, I could sit down and walk around without worrying about anything! These types of dresses are perfect for warm weather because you get the comfortable mid length skirt, but it’s still airy at the same time!
When walking up stairs and sitting down, the last thing you want to worry about is your dress being so short! (Possibly a mistake I made in Lake Como which I will get into lol).
Denim jacket
This denim jacket was a staple throughout my full trip and I am so glad I brought it! They complete a comfortable and simple outfit because they go with everything!
Verona was warm, but there was a few showers making it a little bit chilly when you went out of the sun! I was the perfect temperature in this jacket, and I am someone who is usually ALWAYS cold!
You just can’t go wrong with a good denim jacket right?! It goes with everything, and it’s a piece of clothing that will last you a long time!
Sambas
I will say, these are the shoes I wore the WHOLE trip.
I did bring a pair of sandals, but with the rain and showers for for the first (and 20mins of the second) day, I didn’t have the opportunity to wear them.
Although I didn’t get to wear my sandals, I am not complaining about getting to wear sambas. They are so comfy to walk around in, and matched every outfit.
They go with every outfit, you can dress them up and wear them casually too.
Sambas can also make an outfit that may be TOO dressy for what you were going for, more casual and fit the vibe better.
What I wore in Lake Como
Zara white dress
Would I be lying if I said I didn’t buy this dress the day before we left for the trip? Yes, yes I would.
I was very specific in the type of dress I wanted for going to Lake Como. European summer, pretty, delicate, feminine was my vibe and I think this dress perfectly captures that!
Although I think it was a little expensive for a little dress, when you girl math it, you are basically paying £35 for top and bottoms because it’s a dress! And I think in summer and holidays you would definitely get your wear out of it!
My tip for this dress is to size up.
When I went to the changing room with approximately 15 dresses in hand, I had this dress in a small, and when I tried it on, I took it off and immediately put it in the no pile and ruled it out.
However, as I was leaving the store I did see it in a bigger size and thought what’s the harm in trying it on?
The bigger size fits SO much nicer than the size that was more form fitting. Not only was it more flattering on me, it was so much more comfortable! If a dress is comfortable AND simple, you know it’s getting purchased.
Not to mention, this dress is very short as it is, so getting a bigger size definitely added a (little) bit of length and made it more comfortable to wear.
However if you aren’t a fan of short short dresses, I would steer clear of this one!
The shape of this dress is so flattering, and looks so pretty with the neck tie at the top! Making a bow in the back just makes it so cute and feminine!
What I wore in Milan
White crop top and dad shorts
This was the hottest day of the trip so I knew I wanted to be comfy!
These are my first ‘dad’ short purchase, and why have I not purchased something like this sooner!? They are from Zara, and were also purchased the day before we left for the trip (oops).
They are so comfy when walking round as well as sitting down because they have length in the back!
There’s nothing worse than denim shorts riding up, but I didn’t have to worry about that at all with these!
With the longer denim short, I felt like they looked a lot more elevated and put together rather than having a shorter denim short.
Because I am getting older, (I’m saying this as if I’m not 21 lol) I feel like I can’t do the short short denim shorts anymore.
If you don’t feel as comfortable in shorter denim shorts, get yourself a pair of longer denim shorts. You will feel firstly more comfortable because comfort is key, but you will feel more confident with the longer length and more put together!
White crop top
A white crop top vest is a basic that everyone should have in their wardrobe.
This one has a little something extra about it because of the shape.
It almost curves on the bottom giving you a super flattering shape!
It also matches everything so you know whatever bottoms you wear it’s going to look good! This with the combination of the dad denim short made for such a comfortable and simple outfit, yet I felt elevated at the same time!
*Important mention* Throughout the trip, I was wearing one outfit for nearly the whole portion of the day, so comfort was definitely key!
I wanted to make sure that my outfits fit most vibes, whether we were going into a restaurant or walking around.
Thank you for reading <3
I hope this post was useful for you if you are thinking of going to Italy anytime soon!
I know summer fashion can be really hard because it means less clothing. That’s why I focus on basic pieces that make a comfortable and simple outfit, so I can wear them time and time again.
The weather in the UK is rarely warm and sunny. So if I buy a trendy summer piece, it’s only going to be worn a couple times in the year. But if I buy pieces of clothing that make a comfortable and simple outfit, it means I can wear it multiple times throughout the year!
If you would like to know any recommendations on where to go, please let me know and I will be sure to do a post about it or reply to you!
