If you are looking for wellness goals to lose weight, find the best diet, and how to deal with restricting food for summer, you’re on the wrong post.
This post is all about focusing on how to FEEL our best, rather than look our best.
The most important thing, that will still have a massive contribution in the way you look, is taking care of yourself mentally and physically, without worrying about aesthetics.
Carry on reading to see my wellness goals for this summer!
1. Drink 2 litres of water
A big cliche, I know, but it truly does make such a difference and is one of my biggest wellness goals this year!
I notice huge benefits when I am actually drinking enough water!
When you actually do end up drinking enough water, not only will you feel the mental and physical benefits, you will also feel accomplished as well.
Whether you make a mental tick, or tick an actual list (I love a good list), it will give you that little boost to keep going!
My tips for drinking more water:
- Drink your first litre of water before 12pm. When I drink my first litre of water before 12pm, I almost always reach my 2 litre goal! After 12pm you basically have ALL day to drink the other litre, which is very achievable! If I don’t drink my first litre before 12pm, I notice myself just slowly giving up because I realise I have so much water to drink before the end of the day.
- Buy a cute water bottle. This is definitely one of my weaknesses. I am such a sucker for a cute water bottle, but if it makes you want to carry it around 24/7, then you will be drinking more! (I will say, after a while of having that water bottle, the excitement of a new bottle wears off, and you do have to stick to discipline to actually drink the water lol).
- Have a water tracker. If you can tick something off every time you have drank 500ml, it’s going to give you that little boost to keep drinking more so you can tick everything off!
2. Spending my time more mindfully
Recently, I have noticed that I am spending my free time scrolling through social media, and then wondering where my time has gone.
Social media can be very addicting, and I do think it’s great, but when you look back at your day and you have spent so much of it scrolling on social media, it makes you feel a little rubbish.
Not to mention, if you are following people who appear to have very interesting lives, you do start to compare yourself and your life (and maybe your appearance) to them, which is a very negative thing to do.
I read a very good line somewhere that said: “start your day first before you watch someone else’s”.
This really made me think of how many times I have woken up and scrolled on social media before even drinking a sip of water.
How I am going to spend my time more mindfully:
- Plan my time off. Whether that’s days off, or little breaks within the day, I don’t want to scroll on social media every time I have a little break. It’s like a subconscious movement to just open social media.
- Ideas: Reading (I never regret reading a book!). Going for a walk (indoor or outdoor I always feel better). Journaling (instead of loading your brain with social media, unload all of your thoughts and get clear!). Hobbies (drawing, knitting, etc, spend more time on your hobbies!).
- Plan social media time. Every second I get where I can multi task, or maybe I’m waiting for something to load, I literally pick up my phone to go on social media. I feel like spending intentional time on social media, where I can look forward to it and really let myself enjoy it, will be so much better than going on it every 5 minutes of the day! So even if it’s 1hr every night, or 20mins broken into 3x throughout the day… whatever works for you.
- Acknowledging my emotions. Sometimes, I don’t even know what I am feeling, because I don’t let myself sit with my emotions, or realise what I’m actually feeling. Again, with doom scrolling on social media, I think that is distracting me from everything. I really want to focus on learning about my emotions, so I can actually live in a happier brain / mindset.
3. Eat more colours and focus on what you can add
Gone are the days where I am worrying about what I’m eating. Am I eating too much? Too little? Is this good or bad?
Healing my relationship with food was huge for me last year, and I feel like I am at a really good place! There is still ups and downs, and it will be a forever long journey!
Instead of focusing on what you’re eating and how much, etc, focus on how many colours you’re eating, and what you can add to make it even more nutritious and satiable.
When you eat a well rounded meal, that includes carbs, fats, proteins and micronutrients, you will end up feeling so much more satisfied than if you were to take out the carbs or the fats because they’re “bad” for you.
We are ✨nourishing✨ our bodies this year, and we are not feeling guilty about any of it!
Not every meal/snack HAS to have carbs, fats and proteins. Sometimes that is unrealistic! Just be kind to yourself, honour your cravings, and eat what makes you and your body feel good!
4. Movement nearly everyday
Movement and working out has been a good AND difficult journey for me.
Working out was always done to change the way I looked, and focus on getting a certain aesthetic.
While I still do workout to feel good about the way I think my body looks, movement is about SO MUCH MORE than that and realising these things is why it’s one of my wellness goals this year!
Reasons to move your body that are nothing to do with aesthetics:
- You will get physically stronger. It feels good to be strong! You can move about your day in a stronger body!
- Increased bone density. Working out will increase your bone density, which makes your bones stronger and healthier! No brittle bones for us when we’re older!
- Endorphins. From the wise words of Elle Woods “exercise gives you endorphins and endorphins make you happy!”. Who doesn’t want a little happiness boost?!
- Increased energy. You’ll be able to see a difference when you workout in the morning, as opposed to when you don’t workout! Your body and mind will have more energy throughout the day, and you will be more productive!
5. Journaling more
I have recently been slacking on my journaling, and I can really notice a difference.
Journaling is amazing tool to help you grow as a person, and there are so many benefits. It’s definitely one of my wellness goals that I am going to focus on this year!
Reasons why you should journal:
- It helps you see the bigger picture. When you get everything out, all of your feelings, all of the facts of the situation, everything that could happen, etc, then you can see everything right there on the page for what it is, and it can help you feel less overwhelmed.
- It helps lower your stress. Instead of bottling everything up, writing it out can relieve massive pressure. When you can understand everything your feeling, things become a lot easier to manage, therefore lowering stress in the process.
- You can learn and grow better. If you are regularly writing everything you’re feeling, whether it’s positive or negative, you will start to recognise habits, triggers and patterns. You will start to learn what makes you feel certain ways, and it will help you control your emotions better.
- It’s a mindful thing to do. Like I have said already, sometimes I just doom scroll on social media when I have nothing else to do, and this only makes you more brain dead, and ignore all of your thoughts and emotions. Journaling lets you sit with all of your emotions, and is a mindful practice.
Thank you for reading <3
I hope this post gave you some inspiration in any wellness goals you have for this summer and life in general.
These are great if you are trying to move away from the stigma of feeling like you need to look the best version of yourself in summer.
How about we strive to feel our best in summer, as well as every day of our life!
