For those who didn’t cave in 2023 and buy a walking pad, but are now thinking about getting one, I’m going to tell you if a walking pad is actually worth the money!
The benefits of a walking pad
1. It means you don’t have to walk outside when it’s dark
I don’t know about anyone else, but walking alone when it’s dark out (whether that’s early in the morning or late at night) is a no no.
Having a walking pad in the comfort of your own home means that you can be safe, as well as active.
And not to mention the fact that you can literally watch movies whilst walking…
Obviously we’re not disregarding the benefits of a walk outside in the fresh air. I would still recommend getting fresh air every single day.
But, I do get that it can be hard if you work a 9-5 and the only time you can go outside, is when it’s pitch black outside!
It can be discouraging missing a workout or movement in your day… but now you don’t have too!
2. It’s a quick workout
It’s a quick workout when you don’t have the time to go to the gym!
Now just because it’s quick and accessible, doesn’t mean it’s easy! You can definitely get a good workout in when you bump up the speed!
Having a walking pad in your home is great because not only do you not have to leave the house and factor in travel time in your workout, you literally don’t have to change out of your pj’s if you don’t want too.
You can stay in your pj’s and no one is going to judge you!
3. They are perfect if you’re intimidated by the gym
Sometimes going to the gym can seem scary, especially by yourself!
If you’re just starting out in your fitness journey, and want a non intimidating way to get some movement in everyday, a walking pad is PERFECT!
A walking pad could get your body into the routine of moving every day, no matter the intensity, and build up the habit of setting a time aside to workout.
Giving yourself that commitment to move everyday just became a whole lot easier when you can do it from the comfort of your own home!
4. It can help heal your relationship with exercise
I was first introduced to the concept of cosy cardio by a creator on TikTok called @hope_zuckerbrow.
She came up with the idea of ‘cosy cardio’ to help her heal her relationship with exercise, so she could eventually build up to walking at the gym, and build up further onto more intense cardio machines in the gym.
I know there is a lot of people out there who have a damaged relationships with exercise. Maybe you put too much pressure on yourself, maybe you have created this idea of exercise as being something that is a punishment for yourself.
So getting a walking pad in your own home, where you don’t have to put any workout clothes on, or make yourself look presentable enough to leave the house. Where you can put on a movie, light some candles, and pour your favourite drink. Where you can eliminate the pressure of working out, sounds like the perfect and most exciting way to heal your relationship with exercise.
5. They can spice up your already existing workout routine
If you’re like me, and workout pretty consistently, but still find that you barely move in the day aside from your one workout in the morning, then a walking pad is perfect!
It means I have an extra way of moving my body throughout the day, rather than burning myself out by doing 2 workouts in a day.
One of my new years goals has been to increase my step count. Although I would say I am quite active, looking at my step count could tell you otherwise lol.
But now the new years goals are getting completed everyday because of the easiness and comfort of a walking pad!
Living in the UK, you can’t always just go on a walk anytime you want. It rains constantly, it’s absolutely freezing, and especially in the winter, it gets dark VERY quick.
I can’t always rely on having someone to walk with me, but now I don’t have too!
6. They are perfect for habit stacking
I know you have probably all seen the videos on TikTok of the girlies walking, whilst working their work from home jobs.
Now if you don’t have a work from home job, don’t worry, you can still habit stack.
We’ve already talked about watching a movie and walking, which is the perfect habit stack, because you’re not sitting on your sofa. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that)
You can really pick something that you find yourself doing a lot, that you could also be doing on your walking pad.
Like scrolling on TikTok for example. I admittedly spend WAY too long sat scrolling on TikTok. So why not walk and scroll on TikTok at the same time?!
So is a walking pad worth it?
Absolutely YES.
It is such an easy way to get movement in, and it can help aid your fitness goals whether you want to become more active, lose weight, or increase your step count.
When thinking about whether they are worth the money, you have to consider how many times you will use it if you’re thinking about cost per use.
You can get walking pads for way under £300, meaning if you used your walking pad everyday you would definitely work it off!
