What are we doing this Autumn to be the hottest versions of ourselves? As a summer baby, it is so sad that summer has ended, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still thrive. Here’s your Hot Girl Autumn checklist.
1. We are getting fresh air in the morning
I know summer is over, and the darker mornings have arrived. It is much harder to get out of bed in the morning (all I want to do is keep snoozing my alarm).
But, getting fresh air in your lungs in the morning is going to wake you up, it’s going to be good for you after breathing in your bedroom air all night.
This does not mean you have to go on a walk.
Especially here in the UK the weather is hit or miss. It could be raining, I wouldn’t be surprised if it snowed.
Now it would still be amazing getting a walk in, even if it was raining (don’t let anything rain on your parade), but sometimes you don’t have time, and many other factors, etc.
So what do we do? We’re opening the windows, we’re going into our back garden, we’re stepping outside for a minute and taking some deep breaths of fresh air, and boom, we’re set.
2. We are drinking water before anything
My water intake ALWAYS falls off during the colder months.
It’s not hot outside so I’m not constantly drinking a refreshing glass of water, I’m drinking hot cups of tea, hot matcha, etc.
So the first thing we’re doing in the morning, before breakfast, before leaving the bedroom, we’re drinking water.
Keep a water bottle or glass of water on your bedside table, and chug it as soon as you wake up.
As well as waking up, we are chugging water before we go to sleep. So you know you have had a good amount in the morning, and a good amount at night.
You can still have your cute fall/autumn drinks, your pumpkin spice and vanilla drinks, but knowing you have at least had some water throughout the day will keep you hydrated.
3. Movement
When the colder months come, it is much harder to keep the motivation for working out.
But adding movement into your day is SO beneficial for your body AND your brain.
How is it beneficial?
- Releases endorphins (your happy hormone), which will improve your mood and make you happier throughout the day.
- Increases productivity. When we workout in the morning, we feel good, we feel productive and that keeps the productivity going for the rest of the day.
- You know in yourself when you miss a workout to stay in bed, it is so much harder to get out of bed and get ready.
- Increases confidence. When you work out, you feel more confident in your body afterwards, because you are literally bettering your body.
Whether it’s a walk, going to a workout class, running, Pilates, yoga (at home or in a studio), it’s something, and it will better you mentally and physically.
4. We are being INTENTIONAL with our time
This is something I am definitely working on getting better at.
When we have spare time, we are not doom scrolling through TikTok, we are not scrolling on instagram or anything like that, we are doing something that is actually fun.
This is the hardest thing for me, but if your 80yr old self could look at you, and you were sitting for hours of the day scrolling on TikTok, you would be thinking what is she doing? Get up and do something.
I’m not saying you can’t go on TikTok. I have found some of the most amazing people when scrolling on TikTok, who have helped me so much. BUT you can scroll on TikTok in the evening for a little bit, or dedicate a time when you can sit on your phone.
I love TikTok, but I have noticed that is has shorted my attention span SO much. I am working really hard trying to make this better, by being intentional with my time, and trying to not pick up my phone.
So what can we do?
- Read. When you want to sit and chill, but you don’t want to fry your brain on TikTok, read a book. Whether it’s fiction or non fiction, it is very stimulating for your brain, you learn a lot, and you are focusing on something.
- Bake. It is the season for home baking, warm pastries, breads and cakes. If you bake, then you can look forward to enjoying that alongside when you read, or have nights in etc.
- Movies and tv shows. I know you’re probably thinking, watching movies and tv shows is just like scrolling on TikTok right? Wrong. When you sit down to watch a movie, it is an intentional act. You are telling yourself you are watching this uninterrupted and are going to enjoy it. (If you are struggling on what movies to watch: http://bigsisterera.com/the-best-movies-to-watch-on-netflix-in-autumn/)
- Find a new coffee shop. Finding a cute, cosy coffee shop is probably one of the best things to do in autumn / fall! Whether you go with your friends, your partner or by yourself, I know you will have a good time trying new coffee flavours, maybe you take your work there if you can, maybe you journal.
- Find a bookstore. Even if you don’t read, if you want to get into the autumn mood you need to find a cute little bookstore.
5. Get a new scent
Whether it’s a perfume, a candle, a hand cream, a lip balm.
Something with a new and different scent to what you already have.
Why?
Scents hold memories. You know this from smelling play-dough and being transported back to childhood, smelling gingerbread and thinking of Christmas.
Because you are going into the hottest version of yourself this autumn, you need a scent.
Pick something that smells amazing to you, something that makes you think of this better version of yourself.
Now you can smell it every morning and night, and whenever you feel yourself steering away from the hottest and best version of yourself.
And then next autumn / fall, you can re use that scent if you want. It will transport you back into this hot girl autumn version of who you were, and it will put you in that same mindset and feeling.
Scents for different moods.
If you don’t want to get one specific scent, then you could get multiple for different areas of your life.
For example:
- A candle next to your bed that always relaxes you and makes you feel at home.
- A going out scent that makes you feel your most confident and sexy self.
- Scents for different rooms of the house.
- A perfume / scent for work, to know that whenever this is on you are your most productive!
6. Embrace the colours of the season
I am really starting to get into and appreciate the colours that come with each season.
For as long as I can remember, no matter the season, my makeup, my nails, my outfits, they have been the same.
Whether it was summer, winter, autumn or spring, my looks haven’t varied.
So this Autumn, we are embracing the colours of the season and really getting in the mood.
How can we do this?
- Makeup. Whether that’s buying a new product, or changing your full everyday make up look. We have a signature look for autumn, it could be deeper berry lips, or more oranges and browns.
- Nails. We are loving the deep reds, the black cherry, the brown, the taupe nails. We are stepping away from the bright corals and pinks (if you want too) and we are embracing the fall colours and really living in the moment.
- The outfits. Maybe buying a new brown/deep red/orange bag. Maybe it’s buying a new top or scarf in any of the fall colours.
7. We are journaling
Being a summer baby, I thrive in the summer, so when it starts getting colder, I definitely feel my mood responding negatively to the weather.
We are not letting our mental health decline this autumn, so journaling is our best friend.
Get everything out on paper, your feelings, your day, your memories, etc. anything that’s on your mind is getting journaled.
And if you don’t like journaling, you could type in your notes, you could speak to your phone and make little video diaries / podcasts for yourself.
Either way, making sure we are not keeping our feelings in and taking care of ourselves is n01 priority.
What can help our mental health:
- Gratitude. Journal / speak your gratitude every morning or night. We are grateful that we can enjoy hot girl autumn, and we are grateful for all of the little things in life.
- Affirmations. I am smart, I am hot, I am successful in everything I do, I am worthy. On repeat.
- Happy memories / little wins. So often when journaling we think of the bad things. But we need to remember to document the happy things so we can look back on our amazing hot girl autumn.
Thank you for reading <3
I hope we are all truly having the best hot girl autumn, and this post gave you some tips on how to do that.
We are not repeating years of feeling the summer blues, we are embracing all of the seasons and living in the moment, and ENJOYING every moment!
