I am a Virgo, so organising is literally wired into me, and has changed my life for the better. So I’m going to help you organise your life to change your life.
Why will it change your life?
It gives you time…
Organising everything, (I mean not everything… some things are spontaneous and chaotic no matter what) helps you stay on track for most things in life.
Whether thats exercise, self care, food, homework, etc.
It gives you time to do things that you thought you never had time to do.
Do you always forget / put off things like cleaning your hairbrushes? Or even forget to do things that you actually enjoy because you don’t have the time?
That was me too.
Getting things organised allowed me to have productive days everyday, more time for myself, and moved me closer to my goals!
I read a quote that helped me put things into perspective, and made it easier to organise and plan. It reminded me that you have to take things one day at a time, have a solid, organised routine, and you will get everything!
To win the year, you need to win the month, To win the month, you need to win the week, To win the week, you need to win the day, To win the day, you need to win the morning.
So you’re telling me all you have to do, is win the morning and you’ll win the year and even win your life?
Yes.
And it all comes down to organising everything efficiently!
1. What are your priorities in life
You need to figure out what it is you actually want to organise.
- What are your non negotiable things in your week?
- What do you want to do that you don’t have the time to do?
- Tasks you’ve been putting off that need to be done. (Things like organising drawers, going through your phone storage, clean your car, sort through clothes you don’t need, etc)
Firstly…
Write 3 separate lists answering the 3 bullet points above.
It could look something like this:
Non negotiable:
- Job
- Read
- Dog walk
- Time with my boyfriend
Want to do:
- Workout
- Play piano
- Self care
- Time with friends
Tasks to do:
- Clean hair brushes
- Sort through finances
- Sort through clothes
- Clean car
Once you have an overview of your priorities in the week, then you can start organising your time, and making sure you aren’t neglecting anything.
Obviously, some weeks are busier than others. And sometimes you might have to prioritise certain things in order to get through the week. That is life.
2. Plan your week
At some point in the week, sit down and plan the week ahead.
This means what you are prepared and know exactly what you are going into the next week.
This also lowers stress and anxiety for the week ahead, because you already know and have planned for what’s coming.
How to plan your week
- Write in the things that can’t change, for example work, any appointments, etc.
- Write in your non negotiables (dog walks, read)
- Write a separate list of everything you want to do that week. (Whether that’s going out with friends, working out, etc) – make use of your notes app!!
- Figure out when you can do one of the tasks that you’ve been putting off. If you can do more than one a week, then that’s amazing.
The reason I encourage you to only do 1 task a week that you’ve been putting off, and do more of the things you want to do, is because we often feel so burnt out because we don’t have any time for ourselves.
When we’re not burnt out, we can complete more tasks in the week.
Fill up your own cup so that you have energy to fill everyone else’s cup.
You will notice, that you will slowly but surely get through the tasks you have been putting off a lot quicker than if you were to prioritise them and then give up on life because you feel so burnt out.
3. Organising your space
I know I always feel the most productive and put together, when my space is organised and clean.
Creating time to organise your space, whether that’s your work space, your nightstand, your desk, your wardrobe, means that you save time.
How? When everything is clean and organised, you don’t have to think.
Yes it will take some time to actually organise it, but it will save you time in the long run.
When you have everything organised, you know where everything is, everything just seems in order.
Things to organise to make you put together
- Wardrobe. Start by clearing out your wardrobe. Get rid of anything you don’t wear and be brutal. Then, you can organise everything in it. You could colour coordinate, or do sections of types of clothing.
- This means you can easily think of outfits, because everything is organised, and your wardrobe isn’t overcrowded with things you don’t wear.
- Makeup / desk. Trying to do your makeup and not knowing where anything is is just stressful. Having organisers for your makeup allows you to firstly, see where everything is. And secondly, get rid of anything that you don’t use.
- Food. You can create schedules when you are going to plan what food you’re going to cook for the week. This means you know what to buy (saving you money because you’re not just guessing), and means you can save time because you already know what you are cooking.
- Whether you organise a day to meal prep, think of food ideas, or just make little snacks you can grab when you’re hungry, organising food will keep you on track if you have health goals, or if you just never have food in the house.
- Workout schedule. Organising your workout schedule will mean you are more likely to stay on track. Whether you have body goals, or are just wanting to stay healthy, having your workouts organised and scheduled is a game changer.
- Schedule in a realistic amount of workouts into your weekly calendar, and if you end up having the time to workout more, then thats amazing! But you know you will at least get all of the ones scheduled in!
- Hair wash schedule. I have never had as healthy hair as I do right now having a schedule for all things hair (it’s not as hard as it sounds). (Hair health journey: http://bigsisterera.com/how-to-start-your-scalp-health-journey/). Organising the times when you are going to wash your hair, clean your hair brushes, oil your hair… it will all become part of your routine and it will turn into a habit. The next thing you know, you will have amazing healthy hair, that is consistent.
- Nail schedule. Sometimes when we don’t schedule or plan the time to do our nails / go to nail appointments, they get left, and neglected. It always makes me feel so put together when I make the time to do my nails!
When you organise these things, you have more time to put into other things, and you don’t have this overwhelming feeling that you have so much to do, because you have it all under control.
Thank you for reading <3
