Do you ever scroll on TikTok, and watch a creators video of her/him living the exact same life as you, but they somehow romanticise it and make it look better? *guilty*
This is because we forget to romanticise the little things.
But don’t worry, I’ve got you! Here’s how to romanticise your life…
1. Take your time
Whether that means waking up a little earlier, taking your time is going to help you SO MUCH in romanticising your life.
Why?
Have you ever woke up late and stressed, proceeded to rush around getting ready, accidentally skipped breakfast, and then got to work with 1 minute to spare?
I don’t know about you, but whenever this has happened to me, I feel like the whole day I’m living for someone else, because I haven’t had 2 minutes to fill up my own cup first.
This doesn’t just only adhere to mornings. This includes throughout the full day too!
Taking your time allows you to experience and enjoy your daily tasks more, because you are taking the time to think about and appreciate them.
Examples:
- Enjoying and savouring your first sip of coffee/tea in the morning.
- Taking the time to make breakfast and enjoy a tasty meal before anything else.
- Enjoying the process of doing your makeup (playing music always helps romanticise this).
- Feeling the first bit of sun on you when you step out of the door.
- The feeling of putting your dressing gown on.
- Sitting down to enjoy dinner with your family.
- Getting home from work taking off all of your jewellery and getting into comfy clothes.
2. Get dressed everyday
I’m not saying you need to spend ages doing your hair or makeup on the days you are staying in your house, BUT getting ready even a little bit makes the world of difference in your day.
Why?
I know you are guilty of this too, but when I’m having a chill day at home, and I don’t move from my bed to even brush my hair, I feel almost guilty.
Getting ready, even if you shower and get into another set of cozy pyjamas, makes you feel as though you are allowing yourself to have a chill day, rather than being lazy by not even getting out of bed.
Chill day getting dressed:
- Shower (use your favourite body wash and moisturiser so you’ll be smelling nice all day)
- Brush your teeth (a given, but hey, sometimes when you can’t be bothered it can be hard)
- Skincare. I feel like I’m going to break out in spots if I sit all day without doing skincare. But when I sit all day and HAVE done my skincare, it’s somehow so much better.
- Spend a little extra time, if you aren’t doing anything that day, to massage your face when doing your skincare, maybe get out your favourite face masks, gua sha your face, whatever it is that’s going to make you feel more pampered.
- Lip balm. Having glossy lips always makes me feel more put together.
- Brush your hair. If you are close to hair wash day, you could even put a hair mask in!
- Get into a comfy matching set. This just makes you feel so much more put together, whilst still literally being in pyjamas.
- Use your favourite cosy perfume. Look saving your perfumes for special occasions, means they will hardly get used. Everyday is worth celebrating!
Going out getting dressed:
Whether you are going to work, going to dinner with friends, whatever it may be, get dressed like it’s a special day.
- Adding on from showers, skincare, etc from above, spend a little bit extra time doing your hair. Make sure that every time you leave your house, you feel confident! (But also remember that confidence is literally a mindset).
- Makeup. Take your time doing your makeup. If you enjoy playing music, watching vogue beauty secrets, or silence when doing your makeup, do it. Enjoy the process.
- Choose an outfit you love! There’s nothing like romanticising your day, then wearing your favourite outfit and feeling really good and confident!
- Jewellery. Adding jewellery to your outfit elevates it so much, and just makes me feel so good when I look at my jewellery throughout the day! I think a lot of workwear has to be the same, especially if you work in an office, but jewellery tends to be different for everyone!
- Perfume. Again, I think you should use fancy perfumes everyday, because everyday is worth celebrating. Having someone tell you you smell nice, is a top tier compliment!
3. Make everything an occasion
The simplest things in life can be made beautiful.
When you’re watching TikTok and you see someone making dinner, or watching a movie, look so aesthetic and enjoyable, that is because yo are watching them make something simple, into something special.
Examples:
- Dinner. Play music whilst making it, set up your table with your fancy plates, light candles and place them on your table, pour your drink in a fancy glass (even if you’re drinking water), no phones whilst eating dinner.
- You can make dinner at your house feel like you’re going on a date, either with your partner, family, friends, or yourself.
- Movie night. Instead of just doing your usual routine, get into your pyjamas, get some snacks you can have throughout the movie, turn the lights off and light some candles (you could even have one scent you always use for movie night), get a big blanket and get cosy!
- Working from home. Get dressed into a comfy matching set, put your jewellery on, light a candle, put your humidifier on, sit at your desk rather than your bed, make sure you fully turn off from work on your breaks! You could also turn on some slow music or music with no words.
- Running errands. I’m guilty of hating running errands, but I am trying to really make it special! Get your favourite playlist or podcast on, get a fun drink you can sip on, wear a cute outfit.
- Journaling / reading. Light some candles, wrap yourself in a warm blanket, put on some music, spray a perfume dedicated to reading / journaling so you get in the mind frame every time.
4. Journaling / video diaries
You may not like journaling, so whether you are journaling, making video diaries for yourself, or creating photo albums with little doodles.
What a better way to romanticise your life, than capturing all of your feelings and memories, good moments and bad moments, experiences and everything else.
The thought of being able to look back and see/read all of these memories and things in life, motivates me to do it!
As mentioned previously, journaling is a special, self care, occasion, and will be treat as such, through lighting candles, getting cosy, ready to relay all of my feelings and emotions and memories.
What to talk / write about?
- What made you happy today?
- What made you sad today?
- What was the key learning point of the day?
- What could be better tomorrow?
- If you’ve been on a trip, write about all of the memories, smells, new scenery, food, etc.
- It is also amazing to collect things, like tickets, photos, flowers, from wherever you go that can be kept in your journal, or made into a collage if you don’t like writing.
What to film?
- Little places that make you happy
- Corners of your bedroom that are unapologetically you
- Sounds throughout the day
- Food
- Inspiration
5. Prioritise your happiness
Romanticise your life by making sure you’re putting your happiness at the forefront of every decision.
Romanticise life by making sure you fit things into your day that genuinely make you happy.
What you could fit into your day:
- Conversations with your best friends
- Conversations with your family and or partner
- Things you love to do (reading, yoga, journaling, piano, etc)
- Laughter (obviously this isn’t something you can time slot in, but something that’s always nice to happen in your day)
