If you are feeling any of the negative emotions listed below, then here are wellness things that actually work in helping those different emotions.
I think the first step in helping tackle your negative emotions, is to understand what emotion you are truly feeling.
If you don’t know, then why not try all of these ‘wellness’ things to see if it helps? What’s the harm right?
P.s. I say wellness as an a general topic of bettering and taking care of yourself 🙂
Stress and anxiety
We all deal with it in some form or another, whether it’s very intensely, or very minimally. Whichever form of stress and anxiety you deal with, I firstly want you to know that you aren’t alone.
Wellness ‘things’ to help stress and anxiety:
- Breathe. First and foremost, the thing that slows my heart down, and minimises the horrible feeling in my chest and belly, is breathing. There are multiple different breathing techniques, such as the box method, the 4-7-8 method, etc, but just do whichever one works best for you.
- I personally like the box method for when I want to fully take my mind off something and focus on something else. I also like the simple deep breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth. I like to do that when I am in public, or in my car, when I still need to focus, but I need to get my heart rate down.
The benefits of breathing for stress and anxiety:
- Slows down your heart rate
- Puts you back in the present moment
- Allows you to take a minute for yourself
- It calms your mind and nervous system
- Journal. When you have more time to work through your stress and anxiety, I would recommend journaling. Journaling relieves pressure by getting everything on paper, and a weight off your shoulders. Once you have wrote everything down, you can then look at the stress through an outside perspective, with a clearer mind.
- There are many journaling methods, such as free writing, bullet journaling, shadow work, prompts. It’s all about finding out which one allows you to feel the biggest relief.
The benefits of journaling:
- Relieves stress
- It helps you see things from a different perspective
- It’s therapeutic
- You can work through your problems
- You get to know yourself and how your mind works better

Unmotivated
You would be silly to rely on motivation everyday. I think I only have motivation like 1 day a month, so if I just relied on that, then I wouldn’t get much done!
There are a lot of things to be unmotivated about, including work, exercise, hobbies, (and probably many more things).
What to do when you feel unmotivated for work / business:
- Plan. Planning everything out is the first step to getting everything done efficiently. Even if the only thing you can get done is planning everything you need to do, then it’s a start.
- I would plan everything into sections. For example, non negotiable, important, secondary, quick tasks.
- Time block. This comes secondary to planning, but I think time blocking is the best way to feel less overwhelmed and get as much as you can done without burning out.
- You can time block the tasks you have planned out into your day, as well as scheduling in time for yourself, time for food, etc.
- Vision board / goals. When you are feeling unmotivated, sometimes you stop thinking of your reasons why you are doing what you are doing, and you think of all the reasons why you can’t do it anymore.
- Revisiting your goals, and visualising what you want your future to look like could give you the motivation you have been needing.
What to do when you feel unmotivated to workout:
- Start small. Feeling genuinely tired, compared to feeling unmotivated are two different things. If you are feeling unmotivated to workout, start small. Do a 5 minute workout of your choice. Once you’re there and have done that, see how you feel, and go for more. If you just do the 5 minute workout that day, then well done, you’ve done a workout.
- Plan. A lot of the time we make ourselves unrealistic workout plans and goals, that are just too unrealistic to stick to in the long run. Whatever is better for your overall wellness = you should do!
- So make a realistic workout plan that you know that you can actually stick to. For example, ‘workout 3x a week, and walk 5x a week’. (This may not be realistic to some and that’s why you have to do what works for you). But if you know that that plan is definitely achievable, then any workout that you do extra is just a bonus, and it gets rid of any pressure, which could lead you to doing more workouts, or enjoying your workouts more!
- Goals. If you have any body goals, or you just want to feel / look healthier, then revisit those goals. Again, it is easy to beat yourself up, and pick your appearance / health apart. But it’s not going to get any better doing that, it will only get better if you try and are positive! Just keep your health and wellness in mind, and be kind to yourself.
Tired
Sometimes sleeping is not enough to make me feel renewed and ready to face the day ahead. Sometimes you need more than that…
- Rest day. A lot of the time when we are ‘resting’, we are still thinking about everything that needs done, or we’re thinking about how we shouldn’t be resting right now and we feel guilty.
- That is not resting. You need to truly allow yourself to rest, so that you can actually reap the benefits of it!
- Self care / wellness day. Whatever self care means to you, whether that’s getting a massage, going into the sauna / steam room, journaling, reading. Anything you can think of that doesn’t burn you out.
- Get your priorities straight. Sometimes you need to look at what you’re giving your energy into. Fill your own cup first, so that you can fill other peoples.
- Make sure you’re eating right, sleeping a good amount of hours, and resting.
Insecure
It happens to the best of us. Sometimes we wake up (looking the exact same way as the day before) and we feel insecure. It’s normal, but here’s everything that I do, in the name of wellness, to stop it.
- Play bad b*tch music. There’s nothing that gets you more hyped up, than listening and singing your heart out to music that makes you feel good. It almost makes you realise that you are a baddie, and you should own it.
- Listen to motivating podcasts. Listening to something motivational / uplifting about whatever it is you’re insecure about always helps. It lets you know that firstly, you aren’t alone in feeling this way and that you shouldn’t feel this way you should be confident!
- My favourite podcasts when I’m feeling insecure are ‘Confessions by Anastazia’ (https://open.spotify.com/show/29TFccCw9BK75gRrfriZQ2?si=9_NqEA-1R3mxQk45qpfQvA) ‘The Girls Bathroom’ https://open.spotify.com/show/5RVJabFxj8BInR9wkspD87?si=Y-aLnKW7REGUbbKhr8h5SQ). Anastazia talks a lot about everything wellness, so I would highly recommend. And The Girls Bathroom is like you’re talking to your friends (in the bathroom lol).
- Wear your favourite outfit. Even if you’re just staying in the house, wearing an outfit that makes you feel comfortable AND confident will immediately make you feel better! When you look good you feel good, so maybe make a little more effort with your appearance / getting ready process that day!
- I’m not saying that everything is about your appearance, but making an effort to find an outfit I feel confident in, or wearing some makeup makes me feel better!
- Wear your fancy perfume. I am a big believer in that you should wear your fancy perfume all the time, because life is too short, and everyday is special. But if you have a favourite scent, wear it and you will instantly feel more put together and confident.
- I never forget when I’m speaking to someone and they smell nice. I will instantly think that person is put together!
- Wear jewellery. Putting more jewellery on instantly makes me feel more confident as it makes me feel more put together! If you’re feeling insecure about something appearance wise, wearing jewellery is a great way to distract from that.
- It doesn’t have to be expensive jewellery, but adding jewellery to an outfit instantly elevates it and makes you look put together!
Negative
Sometimes you wake up and you feel negative. Your outlook on life isn’t the best and everything is going wrong that day.
Wellness things to do when you feel like this:
- Gratitude. You have probably heard it before, but gratitude is amazing for putting things into perspective and giving you a positive outlook on life. When you’re down about little things in your day, like your coffee spilling on your top, or your bag breaking, or you missed your bus. Whatever it is, when you think of all of the things that you are grateful for, it makes those minor inconveniences even more minor.
- I know everyone has different living situations, but even the fact that we are all here, reading this, is amazing. You have the gift of sight to see this beautiful world.
- Affirmations. If you are feeling negative about yourself, affirmations are great. They allow you to focus on the positive things about yourself rather than the negative.
- If you think you have an ugly belly, then you will. But if you say to yourself I have a beautiful belly, you will start thinking it, and then you will. Life is a lot about what we choose to believe and what we choose to not believe. So you need to choose what to believe, especially when it comes to ‘flaws’ or ‘imperfections’ on your body, because beauty is all subjective.
Doubtful
There are days when you start to question yourself, when you start to doubt yourself and what you are capable of. It happens to the best of us, but we have to fight it somehow!!
What to do when you feel doubtful:
- Manifestation. Manifestation is a great tool to keep you hopeful and always believing in yourself. There are many ways of manifesting, you just have to find the right one for you.
- Every night, I use the scripting method, where I write down what my day was like in my dream world, as if it has already happened. I allow myself to feel every emotion of happiness, and write the day as if I have already lived it and I am so grateful.
- Visualisation. Maybe manifestation isn’t your thing. That’s where visualisation could help. Go somewhere where you will be alone, sit in a comfy position, and visualise how you want your life to be. Allow yourself to feel all of the happiness, every moment of gratitude, every moment of love.
- You will be feeling happiness and gratitude in real life, which means that you will gain a positive outlook, and you will have a high energy about you, attracting all of those same feelings of happiness.
- Motivational podcasts. Sometimes you need someone to tell you that you can do it. Whether it’s someone shouting at you telling you you are capable of anything, or whether it’s someone gently reminding you that you can do anything you put your mind too, either will work lol.
- The more you drill it into your brain that you CAN do anything, and you CAN work to achieve something massive, then you WILL do it, no doubt.
