There is a LOT of controversy surrounding the Kardashian’s, at all times, so todays post will literally be me getting out all of my thoughts about the Kardashian’s, and deciding whether they are actually harmful or not.
Disclaimer: this is simply just my opinions, take everything with a grain of salt, remember to spread love always <3
Positives
1. First and foremost, they are entertaining
I have watched almost every episode of Keeping up with the Kardashian’s, now rebranded as The Kardashian’s, and I can’t get enough.
I know it’s not just me who thinks they are extremely entertaining and could watch the drama in their lives forever.
2. They have boss bitch moments
You can’t deny that some of the things they’ve done aren’t boss bitch. To talk about a few:
They all work really hard in their business.
They all work really hard in their business. I know working hard at what they do, as oppose to working hard as a cleaner is two different things, but there’s no denying they work really hard. Running multiple business, you just question where they actually find the time.
Kris manages all of her daughters. I think taking care of that many daughters is a task in itself, never mind managing them.
Kim has got her clothing line, Skims, as well as her makeup line, and is also training to be a lawyer. I go to uni, have a part time job, and work on my blog part time, and I am exhausted. I know they have a team under them, but they still have to make sure everything is cohesive to their brand.
All of the other sisters also work super hard. Khloe with her Good American clothing line, Kendall being one of the highest paid supermodels, Kylie with her makeup and skincare brand, and Kourtney with her website Poosh.
Ending marriages / toxic relationships.
Kourtney ending her on and off 10 year relationship with Scott must of took a lot of balls. Especially after she has kids with him. It is nice to see her get out of a toxic relationship. Although I think Scott makes the show hilarious, it is nice to see Kourtney has realised her worth.
After 10 years of giving someone a chance, and being heart broken every time, she has remarkably held it together so well. I don’t think I could have held it together for that long if I was her!
Kim ending her marriage to Chris Humphrey. I know this was crazy, because she was only married to him for what, 72 days?! But ending a marriage after that short amount of time would have taken guts. It would have been easy to stay in the relationship for a little bit longer. But she listened to her gut, and done the right thing for her.
As well as most recently the end of her relationship with Kanye.
I think this really does teach girls and women to know their worth, and do what’s best for them, even if there are people who are voting against it. I think it also teaches girls and women to never settle, and never carry things on when it just isn’t working.
3. They are powerful
I heard Kris say that if someone says no to you, you’re asking the wrong person. That just sums Kris up really.
She isn’t afraid to negotiate, and she isn’t afraid to do anything to get what she wants.
I don’t know how Kris can manage all of her daughters, whilst still having time to be a parent.
Not only are they powerful in business, they are powerful in everyday life too. They can stand up for themselves. If something isn’t what they want, or if someone says something that they don’t like, or agree with, they aren’t afraid of challenging that opinion.
I think that is really important, especially for young girls, to not be afraid to use their voice.
I am a very shy person, and seeing other women stick up for themselves is rejuvenating and empowering.
4. They aren’t afraid to try new things
They really don’t care what people think. That in itself is amazing.
When it comes to fashion especially, they really are ahead of the trends. Heck, they make the trends.
They aren’t afraid to try new things and be bold with their fashion or anything they are doing.
I think this is important in showing people that you can really do anything you want to do.
If they can do something bold with the whole world watching, then you can do something bold with probably less than 1% of the people what watch the Kardashian’s, watching you.
5. They show raw emotions and BTS
On their shows you can see into their lives. I think this is amazing because you can see into the lives of celebrities and what it is like to be one.
I love how you can see if something dramatic or sad happens in their life, you will see their emotions.
There is a lot of glitz and glamour in the celebrity lifestyle. It is refreshing to see that they do get upset about things, and they do get insecure etc.
It would be easy for them not to show anything bad. (I’m talking the sister fights, the nasty comments, the swearing). Showing the bad things keeps them more real, as opposed to editing all of that out and keeping a perfect relation free of judgement.
6. They are a supportive family
There is nothing more special to me than family. Seeing that the Kardashians are always together, always supporting each other, and can always lean on each other for anything is beautiful.
After all they have been through as a family, I am surprised they still tolerate each other. But in the celebrity industry, it can be hard to know who is real and who isn’t. So the fact that they stick together and keep their circle small, is comforting to see.
I love how they spend so much time with each other, because I always spend so much time with my family. When you are younger, it can seem uncool to spend so much time with your family. So seeing the Kardashian’s normalise that, and make it nothing to be ashamed of is amazing.
7. They are very open when they suffer from anxiety
It sometimes seems like celebrities can’t be nervous or have anxiety about anything.
I mean we watch them present awards and make speeches, but when you really think about it, they’re public speaking. Thinking about public speaking makes me want to curl up into a ball.
The Kardashians are very real when it comes to anxiety.
Kendall is very open about it. She also suffers from panic attacks. I think it is really important for someone of their status to be so open about anxiety and normalise it. Sometimes when we’re anxious, it feels like there can’t be any other person in the world who knows what you’re going through. So hearing celebrities talk about it, is nice to know you’re not alone.
I think it’s also important to mention that even though the Kardashian’s have a very different lifestyle to the average person, celebrities can still suffer with anxiety. Sometimes it’s not about the lifestyle at all, it can be about little things.
8. Kourtney’s weight gain
Recently, Kourtney has mentioned her weight gain, and how much she loves it.
I loved this episode, because it made me realise that the Kardashians can actually gain weight. I don’t know why I thought it was just impossible for them to never gain weight like a normal person.
Kourtney speaks to a woman on the show who shows her belly roll over her pants, and she said you are beautiful, you just need new pants. The idea that the clothes should fit you, not you should fit into the clothes.
It was honestly very refreshing to see Kourtney speaking about weight gain and how she loves it and feels so confident.
Negatives
1. They don’t openly share their surgeries
There is obviously a whole thing on whether the Kardashian’s have had surgery or not.
Even if they have or haven’t, why is it a question?
I think it would be good if they were open about it, because it would mean that they aren’t hiding the fact that they are changing their bodies to possibly fit societal beauty standards more.
It would even give girls and women more peace of mind knowing the standards the Kardashian’s set can only be met with plastic surgery. Which make girls and women think it’s okay that their body doesn’t look like the Kardashian’s because that wouldn’t be physically possible.
But, that being said, I do understand why they don’t say anything. They are constantly judged whether they have had surgery or not. Nothing they do would be right. They would get hate for getting surgery, and hate for saying they haven’t gotten surgery.
2. They photoshop their photos
The last point wouldn’t have been as bad, if they didn’t photoshop their images.
I am in two minds about this. If I were a celebrity, with that many followers, I don’t think I would want to post another photo of my body again if it wasn’t perfect.
They have so many people judging them, so they’ll either get hated on for photoshopping themselves to look perfect, or hated on for not looking perfect.
But I do think when you’re a celebrity, and you have this huge platform, that you should use it to highlight the fact that our bodies aren’t perfect.
It is impossible for every body to fit the beauty standard. Every single persons body is different, so how can we fit one standard?
I remember seeing a photo that Khloe, and another photo that Kim, had photoshopped. They photoshopped their cellulite out of it, and it then made me very insecure about my cellulite, because I was thinking well if they want to get rid of theirs so desperately then I want to get rid of mine.
This is just a reminder, that cellulite is so normal for women. Our fat cells are shaped more circular, causing bumps, whereas men’s fat cells are an ‘X’ formation, causing less visible, if not any, cellulite.
I have a post on how to feel confident in your body (especially in summer) if you want to check that out! http://bigsisterera.com/how-to-feel-confident-in-your-body-in-summer/
3. Those copying them could have severe burnout
They are open about their dieting and fitness, and have sometimes said they are working out 2x a day to reach a certain goal. (E.g Kim wanting to fit into the Marylin Monroe dress for the Met Gala).
I’m sure they don’t do that all the time, because it is definitely not a sustainable and healthy way to live.
It promotes significant weight loss in a short period of time, which could be damaging for some people watching.
However, I think their attitude is that they do whatever they want. They don’t tell anyone that you should be living this way, or tell anyone not to eat certain foods. (I mean we’ll not even talk about when Kourtney wouldn’t let her kids eat real sweets at a candy land party).
Thank you for reading <3
Let me know if you agree with any of these points I have mentioned, or if you don’t agree at all, I would love to know!!
